Association subsidized by Publicité-Club de Montréal

Trade group forms to develop humanitarian advertising
MONTREAL - The newly-created Association of Advertising Creators Working for Humanitarian Causes has launched an international contest designed to benefit social causes worldwide.

The works presented in competition are intended to be a source of inspiration and a means of raising funds for socially-oriented communications in underprivileged countries. The associated Advertis-Aid/Publici-Terre Web site (http://www.advertisaid.org) is designed to be a reference site for humanitarian, government and non-government organizations from around the world.

President of the association is Richard Leclerc, a creative formerly with Publicité Martin and Groupe Everest and currently head of his own agency, Commando Création. He is also a former president of the Publicité-Club de Montréal, which is subsidizing the launch of the new association.

Information on the contest rules, fees and other details along with entry forms are on the Web site.

New Worldwide Ad Contest Ready to Roll

A worldwide contest that will not only honour creatives but will potentially benefit humanitarian and social causes worldwide has been launched from Montreal by 'the association of advertising creators working for humanitarian causes' headed by Richard Leclerc, president.

The works presented in competition are expected to be a source of inspiration for all participants and raise funding for socially oriented communications in underprivileged countries, while the associated Advertis-Aid/Publici-Terre Web site (http://www.advertisaid.org) will also become an international reference site for humanitarian, government and non-government organizations from around the world. For example, it will allow organizations with very limited budgets to exchange concepts for use in producing ads.

Advertising submitted in competition must have appeared since January, 1999. Rules, entry forms, information of entry fees and other details are on the Advertis-Aid Web site. Deadline is Nov. 15/00. Winning entries will receive Humani-Terre awards.

The Web site also includes details on how individual creatives and organizations can become members of Advertis-Aid.

In addition, there is also a sector entitled Operation Rebirth that offers an opportunity for social marketing and humanitarian cause advertisements or campaigns that were never used (a situation most creatives have faced in their careers). The goal of Operation Rebirth is to give these concepts new life and make them available to humanitarian, government and non-government organizations around the world. "Who knows?" says Leclerc. "What was not feasible in your country may well be perfectly suited to some other context. Submit your idea by e-mail, and you could see it brought back to life, in co-operation with other advertising creators."

Leclerc, head of his own creative firm, Commando Création, is an award-winning creative director who has worked for several major Montreal-based agencies including Publicité Martin and Groupe Everest, and has produced many campaigns both with agency clients and on his own for such causes as denouncing violence against women, and Amnesty International. He is also a former president of the Publicité-Club de Montréal which is subsidizing the new association.

Uli Wiesendanger, former vice-president of creation and co-founder of TBWA Worldwide, has agreed to be patron of the international competition.
